Kathryn Rogers open letter to the class in regrets to not being
able to attend our 50th class reunion in 2008.
Dear fellow students,
My name is Kathryn Rogers and I graduated with all of you in 1958. Due to
complications from recent surgery I am not able to be with you at our reunion.
I was a pretty quiet and conservative student at T J. My main activity and
joy was music. I was in the choir and even “made” All State Choir during my
senior year. I owe a debt of gratitude to Mr. Robert Jordahl, the choir
director during my high school years. He taught me so many fundamentals
of singing and I continue to use them even now.
I married David Hall at a very young age, right after graduation. We went
to college at East Texas Baptist College in Marshall, Texas. During that
time we had two amazing daughters, Cheryl Elizabeth and Janet Kathryn.
David became a minister and we moved around 26 times in 25 years prior
to our divorce.
As the girls were graduating from high school I started my business as
a corporate trainer and served businesses in Houston and many states.
It was great to travel and train in many different businesses. My area of
specialty was in staffing, training, writing training programs and conducting
workshops and seminars.
After being a sole proprietor for 13 years, I accepted the position as manager
of a research project in the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas
City, Kansas. I lived in KC for 2+ years and really liked living there.
Upon my return to Houston I became the Legal Manager of the Law Division
of American General Life Insurance.
Through all the years and even now I continue to sing. I have been blessed to
be a part of some excellent choral groups. I was a part of a small group of
musicians that traveled through England and Scotland. We gave concerts
all over those areas and raised money to build a school for children with
learning disabilities in Pitlochry, Scotland. What a joy!!
I sang for local and state events, and always sing in a church choir. Lately
I have been singing at a lovely Italian restaurant here in Conroe, Texas, and
concerts in the surrounding areas. I’ll be singing music set to the writings
of Shakespeare for the English division of Sam Houston State University soon.
I may have worked to earn a living, but I lived to sing.
My daughters are married and have families of their own. Cheryl is a director
of nursing at Conroe Regional Hospital here in Conroe. Her daughter Jen
graduated from Baylor and was married this past summer. Cheryl’s son,
Ryan, graduated from A & M and will marry an Aggie grad in May. My
younger daughter, Janet is principal of a Christian private in Fredericksburg,
Tx. Her daughter, Ashley graduated from Baylor and married this past summer
Janet’s son, Matt is in his 2nd year at A & M. I am blessed that they are all
doing great!
We all have so much to be grateful for as grads of T J. Is a great school and
we had such devoted teachers there.
God bless all of you and enjoy being together.
Kathryn Rogers Williams
PS I forgot to tell you that I am expecting my 1st great grandchild in November.
When did we all get this old?
